![]() The sitaz is characterized by it's long thin neck, double first strings, and small round body. The original sitaz dates back thousands of years in Persia, where the first frets were pieces of gut tied around the neck. Of course today our frets are made from brass.
A sitar style bridge gives the sitaz a ringing sound, rather than the plunky sort of sound the traditional brodge makes. It is also an open tuned modal style instrument.
Double first strings tuned the same increase the volume and resonance.
The sitaz is made with either a monkey pod or ebony wood neck carved in to a scroll or birds head on top. The bodies can be teak or monkey pod wood. Thee top plate will vary. Shown above is a sitaz with guitar tuners, a carved monkey pod wood body, an ebony neck with a carved scroll top, and a peduk top plate.
