Ezraj

The ezraj originates in Persia and was later brought India and adapted into Indian style music. The combination of the skin head, pullable notes and bow , give the ezraj voice like quailities often heard in accompniment with a vocalist.  It is played sitting down with the neck resting on the left shoulder, left hend fretting and right hand bowing. It could be compared to a mini cello with frets.
The four main playing strings are oped tuned, bached up by up to 16 resonance strings. A wide neck and large curved frts are perfect for bending or pulling up to twonotes per fret.  The ezraj is a modal style insrtument that coverd up two three octaves.
Our ezrajs are carved out of one piece of solid wood, crowned with a sleek birds head. They can be made from jackwood (shown above), teak, or monkey pod wood. A hand made bow is included.
